Our Story
It all began in September 1989 - Dan and Anna Hooper arrived to pastor a little church of 19 people on Elm Street in Grand Junction. During the first services, Pastor Hooper cast the vision to "connect the unconnected to Jesus Christ". Despite an arson attack two months later, Pastor Hooper knew God had a plan.
The church began to grow and a manufacturing plant on North Avenue and 29 Road was purchased and remodeled.
The church experienced tremendous growth and within 3 years Pastor Hooper searched for a new property. A 26 acre corn field on 24 Road in what is now known as the "Gateway to the City" was purchased. The plans were in place and the vision remained strong and clear - we were ready to start construction of our multi-purpose building and on our way to connecting even more people to Jesus Christ.
During construction, we held services at the historical Avalon Theatre in downtown Grand Junction, taking the message of Jesus Christ to the marketplace. In January 1999, 3,000 adults, students, and children celebrated the new campus of Fellowship Church, which also included a maintenance building, administrative office, ball field and outdoor pavilion.
In September 2001, the Children's and Student Ministry building was completed, providing a safe environment of highly interactive value-driven learning space to make an even more powerful and positive mark on the future lives of children and students.
In September 2002, our East Building was completed, housing our Administrative Offices, more children's classrooms, and our bookstore and full-service coffee house, Cool Beans.
In December 2008 the Main Worship center was completed and the doors opened to house a beautiful sanctuary. With the continual growth of the church our children's and youth classrooms have grown to overflowing. The original sanctuary was re-modeled and completed in February 2014 for High School and Middle School students.
In 2006 the Board of Directors and Executive Leadership sought the Lord on the overall succession plan of Fellowship Church - for the health and future of the church, who was the person that would be the right leader in the event that something happened to our senior pastor and who would that person be to take the mantle and lead the church into the future. Pastor Dan Hooper, Jr. was named the successor in 2006 and a training and leadership development plan was put in place. The father-son team began the co-leadership shift; vision casting, planning, direction, and continuing to grown and disciple the church together.
In 2013 Pastor Hooper, Sr. felt the timing upon him to prepare Pastor Dan Hooper, Jr. to take the Senior and Lead Pastor role on the 25 year anniversary. We celebrated our 25 year anniversary together as a church along with our Board of Directors on September 21st, 2014.
With the leadership transition, Pastor Dan Hooper, Jr. and his wife Amelie Hooper look forward to serving with our founding pastor and his wife and maintaining the vision of Fellowship Church of connecting people to Jesus Christ and as a church, growing together in our love, service, and worship of our Lord and Savior.
Together as the body of Christ we work together to invest in the salvation of the community of Grand Junction and surrounding areas. We believe that Grand Junction and the surrounding areas are our mission field and that together we have the opportunity to see God reach our community for His glory and majesty!
