Why We Tithe
1. Tithing provides for God’s house.
Everything that has been built and maintained here would not be possible without the giving of our people. Without the financial partnership of our congregation, we would be unable to maintain or invest in our facilities.
Malachi 3:10 “Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the Lord Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it.”
2. Tithing tells God we trust Him.
When we trust God with our finances by tithing, it is a beautiful picture of trust. Tithing is a tangible statement that our hearts are filled with faith and trust rather than fear and that we believe in God’s economy above that of the world’s.
Matthew 6:21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
3. Tithing creates margin in our life for God to fill.
When we give God 10% and we live on 90% it is amazing to see how He will give us more than 100% we had to begin with. God's math may not make sense to us, but He miraculously comes through for us when we trust Him.
Luke 6:38 Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”
4. Tithing reminds us that we are not our source.
Scripture tells us that every good and perfect gift comes from God. Therefore, whatever we give back to God was already His to begin with.
James 1:17 Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.
5. Tithing connects our money to a kingdom purpose.
Tithing involves you in the ministry that takes place at Fellowship Church. Your finances contribute to each of the salvations, baptisms, and healings that happen here weekly.
1 Corinthians 4:2 Now it is required that those who have been given a trust must prove faithful.
6. Tithing transforms our money into a seed.
When you invest into God’s kingdom, you are investing in the next generation of Christ followers and leaders. Each of these young leaders will have an impact in their schools, careers, and their future children. When you invest in Fellowship, you invest in a generational faith.
2 Corinthians 9:6-8 Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.
7. Tithing gives our job an eternal significance.
The resources that you earn can help God’s kingdom be advanced. It is common to feel insignificant in our jobs, as if they do not have an impact. Tithing reminds us that when our income is invested into Kingdom work, our jobs have eternal significance.
Colossians 3:23 Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.
8. Tithing let’s everything else in our life know that God is first.
In the Old Testament, the first fruits of the harvest were given so that the people could show that God took first place in their life. We honor that principle today by tithing the first 10% of our incomes, above and before anything else.
Leviticus 23:9-10 The Lord said to Moses, “Speak to the Israelites and say to them: ‘When you enter the land I am going to give you and you reap its harvest, bring to the priest a sheaf of the first grain you harvest.”

● 16 out of 38 of Jesus’ parables deal with money and possessions
● Nearly 25% of Jesus’ words in the New Testament deal with biblical stewardship
● 1 out of 10 verses in the Gospels deal with money
● There are more than 2,000 scriptures on tithing in the Bible, money, and possessions in the Bible, which is twice as many as faith and prayer combined
